Shell, the world's largest oil company, converted the gas station into an electric vehicle charging station in Fulham, London.

Since January 2022, the gas station has started to use all electric equipment, removing the old fuel pump and replacing it with 10 fast charging piles. Istvan Kapitany, who is in charge of Shell's global retail business, said: "This shows us the direction of future transportation development."

Shell said that it has 9000 branded charging piles like Fulham Gas Station, and another 95000 are operated in garages and office areas. Its goal is to reach 500000 by 2025, which makes it far ahead of competitors such as Exxon, Total Energy and BP.

There are 770,000 gas stations in the world, and the operators of these stations will face the problem of how to play a role in cities and highways around the world in the coming decades. If charging takes 30 minutes or more, will people still come? When people can also charge at home, office or shopping mall, is there a business model that can be applied to gas stations?

Perhaps in the future, the charging pile and the gas station can coexist to form a new and more convenient gas station.
